Hardcover. Condición: As New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: As New. 1st Edition. The first "selfie" in space--the last to survive. Four As New SIGNED First Edition titles by Buzz Aldrin, the last surviving crew member of Apollo 11. "I m in favor of changing the destination of humans," Aldrin told the New York Times in 2009, amply demonstrated within all four Signed First Edition copies in fine condition with fine dust jackets. Unread; opened only by Buzz for his signatures, no personalizations. Signed directly to books, no "tipped in" signatures. Collection includes Reaching for the Moon (Harper Collins, 2005, also signed by artist Wendell Minor); Mission to Mars (National Geographic, 2013, also signed by co-author Leonard David); Magnificent Desolation (Harmony, 2009,) and Welcome to Mars (Nat Geo, 2015). All four signed titles in very fine, highly collectible condition. In 1966 on the Gemini 12 orbital mission, Buzz performed the world s first successful spacewalk extra-vehicular activity (EVA), and set a new EVA record of 5 1/2 hours. During that mission he also took the first selfie in space. On July 20, 1969, Buzz and Neil Armstrong made their historic Apollo 11 moonwalk, becoming the first two humans to set foot on another world. An estimated 600 million people at that time, the world s largest television audience in history witnessed this unprecedented heroic endeavor. Since retiring from NASA and the U.S. Air Force, Col. Aldrin calls himself a Global Statesman for Space and remains a tireless advocate for human space exploration. Book #Cv2102. $998. We specialize in Rare Ayn Rand, history, and science.
