Dust jacket has edgewear, price clipped, gift inscription on front end page, green cloth cover is slightly discolored at edges, otherwise without flaw. As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning begins the June day 19 year old Laurie Lee left his Gloucestershire village and set out for London to seek his fortune. His month-long journey on foot taught him how to live by playing his violin on street corners, and after a year of working in London as a builder's laborer, he decided to take his violin to Spain - though he scarcely knew where it was. By the time he had walked and played his way through Spain to the Mediterranean, the country was split and civil war was imminent.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. Leonard Rosoman Ilustrador. Second Impression (U.K.). First published September 1969 by Andre Deutsch Limited, London, this copy is the second impression printed October 1969. Dust jacket has light shelf wear, tape repair back flap edge, gift inscription front end page (dated Oct 1969), otherwise without flaw. In 1934 young Laurie Lee walked to London from the security of the Cotswolds to make his fortune. His plan was to live by playing the violin and by labouring on a London building site. The next year he tramped through Spain. Signs of impending civil war were clearly visible and when it broke out a few months later Lee had become a sharer rather than a detached observer. Laurie Lee's story tells more of the truth about the Spanish Civil War than many a more panoramic account, and tells it unforgettably.
