Houghton with tissue-guards. 105 pages. Light bumping and wear to spine and corners. Inscriptions in ink to front endpaper, which is also creased to corners. Page browning throughout, including to plate margins. Packaged with care and promptly dispatched!.

Brown cloth illustrated cover in very good condition with slight bumping to corners and spine ends. Endpapers have been carefully replaced; lacks the two pages of adverts. All colour illustrations have their tissue guards (apart from no tissue guard on frontispiece). One illustration is on a different page to the page listed at the beginning. Interior is in good condition, there is some light discolouration to page edges.

Front endpaper missing. Page signatures repaired and glued to the reverse of the spine. Nice tight text block. Pages edges/signatures a little un-even. Cloth lightly rubbed and soiled in places. Coloured blocking and gilt work dull in places. Edges rubbed in places. Contents average with usage, general marks and thumbing to pages. Some pages quite marked.Plates and tissues guards all present. Some tissue guards with small loss, soiling/foxing and nicks. Plates a bit marked and rubbed. One plate quite worn to top edge.Not a great example but shows quite well. More images can be taken upon request. Ref 14856.

Decorative Cloth. Condición: Good. No Jacket. Philip Dadd Ilustrador. 1st Edition. A good copy of the 1st impression of the 1st edition in the original decorative cloth binding with colour frontispiece and 15 further colour plates by Philip Dadd. The cream cloth binding has gilt titles to the front board and spine with a design in green and tan to the front. Top page edges gilted. The cream has darkened, particularly on the spine, and there is some scuffing to the cloth surface. The back board and spine have some light marking. Corners have some wear, particularly the bottom corner of the front board which has a bump and a cloth fray. Spine ends lightly pulled. Contents with half title; frontispiece; tissue guard; title with red publisher's emblem and without address details for the publisher; dedication; illustration list; poem; text with 15 tissue-guarded plates p 1-105; epilogue p 106; 2 pp publisher's ads at the rear, advertising The Gold Bat, The Pothunters, A Prefect's Uncle; and Tales of St Austin's. Contents are generally very clean and sound. There are a few light gilt ink squiggles at the front pastedown and free endpaper. Plate III has ragged tissue guard and side edge. Previous owner's Tipped to the front pastedown a 1911 photographic X-Mas and New Year's Card with an inscription beneath. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. "William Tell Told Again" (1904) is a retelling of the William Tell legend in prose and verse. The main prose was written by P. G. Wodehouse, while the verses were written by John W. Houghton. Once upon a time, more years ago than anybody can remember, before the first hotel had been built or the first Englishman had taken a photograph of Mont Blanc and brought it home to be pasted in an album and shown after tea to his envious friends, Switzerland belonged to the Emperor of Austria, to do what he liked with.
