Críticas:
"Yet another Gierach masterpiece and well worth a read, even if you aren't into fishing." -- David Keene * The Washington Times * "Perceptive and witty. . . . These lyrical essays explode with descriptions of beautiful places, big fish, and beautiful fish. . . . But Gierach can write about more than trout and salmon." * Booklist * "A fisherman's testimony to the faithful. . . . [An] Elegiac tribute to the elusive art and ineffable pleasure of fly-fishing, with plenty of information about how it's done by true practitioners." * Kirkus Reviews * "[Gierach's] writing here is unfailingly witty, generous of spirit and full of hard-won but easily shared knowledge. . . . It goes without saying that Gierach is a masterful storyteller, but what's even more obvious after reading Liars is that he is a profoundly skilled writer." -- Steve Duda * The Flyfish Journal * "John Gierach is one of the most successful fishing writers of all time, and with good reason. In his 17th book, Gierach reminds us in a delightful way that fishing never has been just about catching, though he can teach us a lot about that, too. . . . Despite taking trips as a famous angler to exotic fishing locales, Gierach has retained his down-to-earth fishing honesty and has never forgotten that some of the best stories are about wading a trout stream just down the road." -- David Shaffer * Minneapolis Star Tribune * "John Gierach remains the most consistently eloquent fly fishing writer of modern times." -- James R. Babb, Editor, Gray's Sporting Journal "A reader can learn a whole lot about fishing-and about life-than they might have expected reading this book." -- Kate Whittle * The Missoula Independent * "From the early days . . . to his present cult status, [Gierach's] candor and canniness at the water's edge have been consistent. . . . [His] grizzled, laconic persona is engaging. . . . The voice of the common angler." -- David Profumo * The Wall Street Journal * "All Fishermen Are Liars is rich in the savvy, humor, and sidelong takes on our sport that have made all of John's books such addictive reading." -- Paul Schullery, author of If Fish Could Scream and The Fishing Life
Reseña del editor:
For John Gierach, fishing is always the answer-even when it's not clear what the question is. He's fished for steelhead in the Pacific Northwest, bull trout in British Columbia, bonefish in Mexico, and pike in the Upper Midwest. He's even tried winter fly-fishing and braved the remote Alaskan wilderness. Through it all, he has nurtured his enduring love for the sport. In All Fisherman Are Liars, the ever-popular Gierach shares insights, musings, and countless stories from the profound to the funny to the downright absurd that he's collected over a lifetime of fishing. Traveling around North America, Gierach seeks out great fishing experiences with one goal in mind: to have a good time and maybe catch some fish. He talks about fashion in flies and fly-tying, about the mysteries of why certain flies work, and about the etiquette of fishing a popular spot. He reflects on how it feels to approach a new stream, acting nonchalant while experiencing intense excitement and anticipation. He also muses about fishing rods: "Although I own enough rods to build a picket fence around my property, I can sometimes be convinced that I need just one more." And though Gierach loses some fish along the way, he never loses his passion and sense of humour. Wry, contemplative, and as lively as ever, Gierach gives us a book as edifying as it is entertaining. All Fishermen Are Liars is a joy to read-and, as always, the next best thing to fishing itself.

Light blue cloth-backed, paper-covered boards, spine titled in gilt. Remainder-mark to page-edges o/w a fine new copy in dust-wrapper. First edition, first printing. "In All Fishermen are Liars, Gierach travels across North America from the Pacific Northwest to the Canadian Maritimes to seek out quintessential fishing experiences. Whether he's fishing a busy stream or a secluded lake amid snow-capped mountains, Gierach insists that fishing is always the answer - even when it's not clear what the question is. All Fishermen are Liars covers fishing topics large and small: the art of fly-tying and the quest for the perfect steelhead fly; fishing in the Presidential Pools previously fished by the first President George Bush; and the importance of traveling with like-minded companions when caught in a soaking downpour. Gierach may occasionally lose a fish, but he never loses his passion for fishing or his sense of humor. All Fishermen are Liars proves yet again that life's most valuable lessons - and some of its best experiences - can be found while fly-fishing." "John Gierach remains the most consistently eloquent fly-fishing writer of modern times." (James R. Babb). . Nº de ref. del artículo: 39028
