Reseña del editor:
Prophets and their predictions have intrigued, amazed and disturbed humankind throughout recorded history, and in the mysterious realms of myth and legend. Geoffrey Ashe presents here a factual, learned, but easily accessible overview of major and minor prophecy, from the oracles at Delphi to modern attempts to find the future in dreams and horoscopes. Ashe's eclectic approach brings fresh insight into the subject, including Biblical prophecy, prophetic elements in the works of Dante and Milton, and Merlin's so-called prophecies and the 'return' of King Arthur. Ashe also addresses the confusion about the famous seer Nostradamus, clearing away the extravagant claims of some of his interpreters and scrutinising anew his genuinely impressive predictions.
Biografía del autor:
Geoffrey Ashe was born in London and lived for some years in Canada, where he attended the University of British Columbia. Returning to England, he studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he took a First in the English Tripos. Most of his numerous books are on historical and mythological topics, especially the Arthurian legend, and he was secretary of the committee that excavated Cadbury Castle, the reputed original of Camelot. Geoffrey Ashe has held visiting professorships at several American and Canadian universities. He lives in Glastonbury.

What do the fall of Troy, the birth of Christ, and the Soviet Union have in common? Prophets have predicted these events, and here is fresh insight into these ever-intriguing, ever-amazing seers. The comprehensive coverage extends from priests and stargazers to the Oracle at Delphi to modern attempts to find the future in dreams and horoscopes. Did the famous diviners draw only on their own intuitions or did they have supernatural gifts that allowed them to make uncannily accurate forecasts?
