Now, four years after his death, Schwarz-Bart's last novel 'The Morning Star' has been rescued by his widow from his papers. Andre Schwarz-Bart (1928-2006) was born in Metz, France. Fifteen years later his parents were arrested and shipped to a Nazi concentration camp. Schwarz-Bart served with the French Resistance and was himself imprisoned, but escaped. He won the Jerusalem prize in 1967. Julie Rose's acclaimed translations include Victor Hugo's 'Les Miserables', Alexandre Dumas's 'The Knight of Maison-Rouge' and Racine's 'Phedre', as well as works by Paul Virilio, Jacques Ranciere, Chantal Thomas and many others. She is a recipient of the PEN medallion for translation and the New South Wales Premier's Translation Prize.
