A biography of the life and work of Charles Darwin, written by one of Britain's leading psychiatrists, this book attempts to explain why Darwin suffered with psychosomatic illnesses. It is also a history of Victorian society, Darwin's contemporaries and the ferment in science during this period. This biography does not focus on "Origin of Species", but presents a broader picture of Darwin's life. It particularly emphasizes his relationships with his family and friends.
